Jim Johnson - Class Of 1973

Jim Johnson

James (Jimmy) Johnson was born on December 10, 1952 and passed away on October 6, 2020 at the age of 65. Before joining the Air Force in 1973 he had been a lifelong resident of Edgemont, CA and was a member of the MVHS Class of 1973. Following his discharge from the Air Force he worked for the civil service at Vandenburg AFB in their rocket fuels division. He and his family moved to Titusville, FL in the mid 80’s were he worked with the space shuttle recovery team. After his retirement from this, Jimmy went back to school where he earned his special education teaching credential. He was awarded one of the Florida Top Ten Teacher awards during his employment as an educator. Throughout adulthood he continued to stay active in adult league baseball and golf. Because he was never one to stay still, he started long haul truck driving and continued to do this until September of this year. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Denise, his Mother, and two siblings, Liz and Jeff. He is survived by his daughters, Amanda and Holly, his granddaughter, Ava as well as siblings, Jennifer Hogerty, Albert Lancaster, Jon Johnson, Alyson Lancaster, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is loved by all and will be greatly missed.

I just saw this, sorry to hear of Jim's passing.  I played baseball with him not at MVHS (he was a couple years ahead of me), but in the Thorobred League during the summer.  We were both in the outfield, and he was a lot better than me!  Heck of a ballplayer, and always a nice fellow with a great sense of humor.  He made the most of his life, from reading his memorial, good for him.

Rest in peace, Jim.
