Stephen M. Bonnell (class of 1974) has returned to the ‘Halls of Valhalla,’ where he is back with the kids of his youth, a time of innocence and we could feel the warmth of the sun on our backs. Stephen died October 29, 2011.

Stephen M. Bonnell, 55, of Schuyler Lake passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Born December 2, 1955 he was the son of the late Hugh and Elloise (Robertson) Bonnell of Sunnymead, CA.

Stephen married Linda J. Melchionne on November 28, 1981 in Las Vegas. He worked as a soil scientist for the USDA and as an environmental scientist for the NYSDEC. He was studying for his Master's Degree and working as a Professor at SUNY Oneonta at the time of his death. He was a Moderator of the First Baptist church of Oneonta, a member of the ADK Hiking club, the Audubon Society (DOAS), the Mid York Mycological Society and a Friend of the Glimmerglass Opera.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, who were very proud of his three children. He was privileged to have his daughter, Jenny working as an artist at the Main View Gallery. He traveled to Mexico from Dec. – Jan. 2011 to visit his daughter, Mary and he was so proud to present his son, Seth in marriage to Laura Kallenborn on August 7, 2010.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda J. Melchionne; his children, Jennifer, Mary and Seth; his brothers, Chris (class of ‘69,)
Monty Bonnell (1971) and his sister, Cherina Guzmann (class of 1980).
